My top resolution this year has been to make more time for my family. A few years ago, both my mom and dad moved out of the city (separately, since they’re divorced), making it difficult to visit regularly. Yet for the most part, we made it happen. And then life got in the way, leaving me with little motivation to venture out of my self-sustaining bubble for the better part of the last couple years.
I retreated into myself, becoming the worst sister, daughter and granddaughter I’ve ever been. I definitely did not think I was capable of pulling away as much as I did. Yet things are different now. Bridges are mended, roads cleared and the tank is full. This year, Family Day is going to extra special.
For those looking to go the extra mile themselves for Family Day, here are some of my suggestions, which were created with the help of Bayer:
Get out of town. Make the most of the journey
Plan a family weekend away –somewhere within driving distance. In this case, the journey is more important than the destination. Don’t underestimate how much you can bond during a road trip together. With our busy schedules, it can be hard to sit down and reconnect as a family but a road trip literally forces us to sit together and leads to great opportunities to talk and reconnect.
Stay in town. Discover something new
A long walk together is another clever way to carve out family time. If you set out without a destination, who knows what you’ll discover. And, if you set aside this interrupted time as a family, who knows what you’ll discover about each other. Make sure your walk doesn’t get cut short by back or heel pain. Try slipping a pair of Dr. Scholl’s Back Pain Relief Orthotics or Dr. Scholl’s Heel Pain Relief Orthotics into your shoes. Both help cushion and absorb shock with every step you take.
Try something new together
There are many winter activities you can enjoy with your family. Skiing, skating, playing hockey or even a snowball fight are all fun activities to get your family outside enjoying time together. Don’t let back & body aches or pains limit your winter fun. Remember to pack your ALEVE Back and Body when you pack your skates or skis! It can quickly and effectively relieve muscle pain, backache and body pain, and is clinically proven to last up to 12 hours.
Whatever you do, plan to unplug
It’s easy to get distracted by devices. In order to really connect with family, try to stay away from phones, TV, computers. Pledge to put away your devices and give your family your undivided attention.
