After the recent US election, it’s a happy coincidence that our second book choice revolved heavily around the female voice and what it means to be a young girl in the modern world. Although The Girls by Emma Cline deals with some extreme situations, the perspective of the main character, Evie, sheds an interesting light on the experiences many girls go through or, at the very least, think about.
The fictional story might be inspired by the Manson Family, but there’s so much more to the novel — a lot of which is brought up by the men of The Lit Squad. Lauren and I definitely put Jake and Akil in the hot seat more than once. Check it out to see how they liked reading a book solely from a female perspective.
P.S. We missed you, Sasha! And a special thank you to Lauren for hosting, Javin for filming, Jess for photographing and Indigo for the amazing support!
Stay tuned for the announcement of our next book!
