I wanted a cup of tea. But when the kettle started to wail on the stove, I couldn’t get back up to address it. I didn’t want to leave the couch, which had become my safe haven as much as my prison over the last few weeks. I eventually made it to the kitchen, but not without an excruciating amount of effort.
This particular experience has, thankfully, been far and few in between happier moments, but overall the year has continued down a rough patch of road. I’ve always been annoyingly positive and optimistic — a bubbly person by nature. Those are the qualities I try to relay through my social media accounts as well. After all, negativity breeds negativity. Yet I also know the importance of being as open and honest as possible, especially since everyone experiences their own dark days, months or even years. Life isn’t always as peachy as these images.
Not wanting to get up off the couch was a new low for me in particular. Unless I’ve been invited to a media fitness event, I haven’t been working out. In fact, I haven’t been taking care of myself in general. My eating habits are terrible and I feel as though all I’m doing is wallowing.
That ends now.
Today is the beginning of a new month and the beginning of my March Break. I’m going to be saying no to a lot of things in order to say yes to even more. I’m going to be running again, eating healthier and only going to events that directly benefit my business, brand and person. And I’m going to work. My finances have taken a turn for the worst as well.
Once in a while you need a big wakeup call to snap you out of your reverie — whether that is a fun or sad one. Last year I was having tons of fun and needed a reality check. This year has been decidedly less fun, but again I need to find balance.
I’ll be sharing my month-long journey to getting back on track in a variety of ways, so be sure to follow along with me. Maybe some of you are also looking to make a change for the better?
[Side note: I hardly ever share outtakes or unedited photos. But I decided to with these “peachy” shots from my recent trip to Mexico. Even as I immersed myself in an amazing new culture, I was struggling with some inner demons — and losing my passport did not help, hahaha.]
